COURT HOUSE – Middle Township High School (MTHS) students explored future opportunities at the Fifth Annual MTHS Career Day Jan. 10.
According to a release, over 40 careers and fields were represented at the event. Local professionals shared their experiences and generated interest in career possibilities for students.
Presenters included motivational speaker Stedman Graham, the team from WIBG 94.3, the founder and president of SkyScape Industries, the general manager of a Wildwood convenience store in addition to many others.
Graham, educator and author, is an MTHS graduate. He began the day with a presentation for students, and discussed how important it is for students to find their passions and follow their visions.
He shared his Identity Leadership Nine-Step Process to help students better prepare for their futures.
“I want these students to understand the value of education and how to make it relevant to their passions and purpose in life,” stated Graham. “I wanted to get this across to the students today so that they realize it early and can start succeeding early as opposed to starting late.”
When asked about his years spent as a student in the Middle Township School District, Graham thanked his teachers for the impact they had on his life.
“I had a lot of great teachers when I was a student here. All of our teachers were concerned about us, and they truly cared about us,” said Graham.
“You can’t replace those Middle Township years. It’s a great community, and it was very special to have grown up here. My teachers kept me out of trouble and gave me a really solid foundation in terms of education,” he added.
After Graham’s presentation, students spent the rest of the day visiting other presenters to explore what the work world offers.
SkyScape Industries’ presentation captured the interest of many students. The company specializes in data acquisition services using advanced sensors, most commonly known as drones.
Nate Ernst, the company’s founder, and president, graduated from MTHS in 2008 and went on to earn his B.S. in Business Marketing and MBA in Finance from Monmouth University.
Ernst explained that he struggled to find his passion before starting SkyScape Industries in 2014. He spent six years in school and worked in finance for a few years before realizing his passion, which was the drone industry.
“At SkyScape we provide services for companies, develop new technologies and we help companies use drones for a variety of different projects, including national disaster relief, construction management needs and important data collection strategies,” explained Ernst.
Students were able to get a close-up look at the drones Ernst uses. Ernst had two on display in the MTHS gymnasium, one that could fly a couple hundred feet in the air and one that can practically fly among airplanes.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
