SEAVILLE – Cape May County resident Greta Schwartz is scheduled June 1 to complete a 100-mile walk to the Statehouse to raise awareness for mental health issues facing residents.
Schwartz set out on her journey from Route 50 in Seaville, Upper Township, Cape May County, at 6 a.m. on Memorial Day, with plans to walk approximately 30 miles each day. She is scheduled to arrive to the Statehouse midday on Wednesday and will be carrying a plywood coffin displaying the names of those whose lives have been lost to mental illness. She will be dressed as a warrior to symbolize her fight to bring attention to this cause.
“I am so proud of the incredible effort that Greta is making to bring awareness to mental health issues facing residents in our state,” said Senator Jeff Van Drew (D-Cape May, Cumberland, Atlantic). “It takes a great deal of courage and dedication to undertake this kind of challenge. She already has brought attention to this issue with her plans to make the trek on foot from Cape May County to the state capital, and I know she will continue the effort to raise awareness and to bring about change in the weeks and months ahead.”
May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
