Science Rocks 4-H Club Leader: Kim Simpkins, Christine Gotwols

May 2019 Meeting: Harbor Safari with Nature Center of Cape May; (L to R): Eddie Hoover

By

Science Rocks is a 4-H club for K-8th graders who love learning about science!  We meet the third Sunday of each month at 5:30 pm at the 4-H Lockwood Center.  At each meeting, we explore a different aspect of science.
We have learned about geology by learning to identify rocks and cracking open geodes. We have learned about zoology by having the zoo’s Ambassador animals visit one of our meetings.  We also took a trip to the Cape May County Zoo to meet the giraffes. We learned about botany by planting flowers and a vegetable garden with a Master Gardener. We learned about the aquatic food chain by getting dirty in the harbor with Nature Center of Cape May. We learned about astronomy by using star charts and examining constellations. We even did a meeting where we learned about chemical reactions and watching things fizz, foam, and EXPLODE!  We also did two beach clean-ups this year to learn about protecting our environment.  We are excited to continue to learn and explore!
Science Rocks club members are Eddie Hoover, president, Autumn Richards, vice-president, Hayley McLaughlan, treasurer, Amelia Worthington, secretary, Emma Gotwols, Edan Simpkins, Elouise Worthington, Molly Jane Richards, Lillian Carr, James Carr, Rainbow Mcatee, Eric Berg, Timothy Graeber, Sam Wilkerson, Joseph Wilkerson, Kasper Sypalis, Kaius Sypalis, Jade Cloer, Ariella Norris, Audrey Young, and Leah Angstadt.
