Children’s author, Lisa Mullarkey, visited Glenwood Avenue Elementary School on March 16. The Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten children were treated to a storytelling activity, and the first through fifth grade students attended an assembly about the author’s writing process and what inspired her to write the children’s book series, “Katharine the Almost Great”.
Mullarkey also had dessert with the 32 lucky winners of the “Dessert with the Author” contest. Students entered the contest by submitting drawings of book characters and para-graphs about why they wanted to have dessert with the author.
During the dessert celebration, students got to ask the author questions about her books, and the author shared some heart-warming stories about her family and career. Mrs. Mullarkey was excited to see their creative artwork and writing, and she gave compliments to each and every student about their winning piece.
Mullarkey especially enjoyed the handmade “pop-up” book written and illustrated by budding author/illustrator, Erin Henry a fifth grade student. It was a wonderful event, and one that hopefully inspired at least one future author.
