Taxpayers’ Group Plans Candidates’ Forum

By Herald Staff

SEA ISLE CITY — A city school board candidates’ forum will be held April 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the Sea Isle City Community Lodge, JFK Boulevard, across from the police station.
There are eight candidates for four seats: three, three-year terms and one, one-year term.
The school board election is April 15 from 5-9 p.m.
“Those who are elected to the board will have to make many hard decisions and answer tough questions,” according to a press release.
Some issues that must be addressed before September 2008:
• Sea Isle School has less than 100 students.
• The cost to educate each child in the school is $38,000, highest in the state, when the state average cost per student is $13,000.
• Should students be bused to another district? Which school district?
• Busing students to a larger district, what are the advantages and disadvantages?
• How will special needs and gifted children requirements be met?
What are the public’s ideas and suggestions?
The forum is being sponsored by the Sea Isle City Taxpayers Association.
