STONE HARBOR — Stone Harbor Elementary School held its eighth grade graduation on Wed., June 23.
The Class of 2010 had eight members: Lauren Legler, Ryan Orzech, Cody Stanford, Adam Vaul, Tricia Stump, Erin Ruskey, Jana Orzech and Stacey Hand.
Each student gave a short speech on his or her memories of their school years, which drew quite a few chuckles from the audience of parents and friends. The guest speaker was Wendy Darling-Connell, a graduate of he school a few years back.
She gave some heart-filled advice on “Lessons Learned While Attending Stone Harbor Elementary School.”
The presentation of wards was the evening’s highlight:
Stone Harbor Chamber of Commerce Award for Highest Average, presented by Phil Barber to Tricia Stump.
Stone Harbor Seniors Club Award for “Positive Growth and Performance” presented by Clare Furmanski to Ryan Orzech.
American Legion Award for “Best All-Around Student” presented by Ted Ramsey to Cody Stanford.
Rotary Club Award for “Service Above and Beyond” went to Stacey Hand.
Wetlands Institute Award for Science, presented by Lori Hamilton to Tricia Stump.
Women’s Civic Club of Stone Harbor Award for Math, presented b Sandy Meadowcroft to Tricia Stump.
William Burns Leadership Award from the P.T.C. went to Stacey Hand.
Following the awards, the students received their diplomas from David Hoy, member of the school board. David Rauenzahn, chief school administrator, congratulated them.
The class presented to the school a banner emblazoned, “Courage” and a class gift of a sign for the school garden, newly planted this year.
On Sept. 24 of this year, the school will mark its centennial. A celebration is planned for that milestone. It is the hope of many that as many graduates of the school will return for the festivities.
