SEA ISLE CITY – In honor of Fire Prevention Week, the Sea Isle City Volunteer Fire Department welcomed local youngsters into their main headquarters on JFK Boulevard on Oct. 13. During their visit, students from the Sea Isle City Public School and Sea Isle’s United Methodist Church’s Children of Promise Day Care learned about fire prevention by watching a Disney Safety movie, climbing through a “Smoke House” filled with simulated smoke, trying on official fire fighter’s gear and enjoying rides in fire engines. The children also each received gift bags filled with school supplies, toys, coloring books and information about fire safety.
“Children really get a lot out a visit to a fire house,” said Sea Isle City Volunteer Fire Fighter Jason Steelman, organizer of the yearly event. “It’s very important for them to learn about fire safety, and each year during fire prevention week we try to make their visits interesting and memorable so they will take home as much information with them as they can. The more interested they are, the more they learn.”
