Applications are now being accepted for the Community Christian Library’s Tutoring Tuesday Program. This program is available to any child who has completed kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade.
Each tutor is a local teacher who is volunteering time to work one-on-one with a student to improve or maintain reading skills.
This is a free program BUT pre-registration is required. Tutoring will begin on July 6, and will continue on Tuesdays through the summer until August 24. To register yout child call Debbie at 463-9405 or the church library at 465-5511.
The Community Christian Library is an outreach of the First Baptist Church, 101 Sout Main Street, in Cape May Court House.
Bishop McHugh
Margie Cullen’s fourth-grade social studies class at Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School was visited by several of the students’ parents who work in the state of New Jersey for Parent Career Day on May 20.
Cullen’s class is completing a comprehensive study of New Jersey in accordance with the fourth-grade curriculum.
The students have studied the details of our state from the American Indians to the politics and economy of New Jersey today.
Those who came to speak to the students about their profession include lawyer Ellen Nicholson Byrne, Construction Official and Building Inspector of Sea Isle City Neil Byrne; Shore Memorial Hospital worker Steve Hepding; Correction Officer Fred Schalek; Ocean City Fireman and E.M.T. Tim Laverty; United States Coast Guard Ryan McKenna and Special Events Coordinator in Atlantic City Cara Rice.
Cape May County Technical
Nancy Fissel, an English teacher at the Cape May County Technical High School, is the 2010 State SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year in recognition of more than 20 years of work with students at the state and national levels of competition.
SkillsUSA is a national organization that serves trade, industrial, technical and health occupations students in public high schools, career and technical centers, schools and two-year colleges.
It is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled work force by helping students to excel. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development while building and reinforcing self confidence, work attitudes and communication skills.
The association emphasizes quality work, high ethical standards, superior work skills, life long education and pride in the dignity of work.
SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service activities.
Currently, nearly 17,000 teachers and school administrators serve as professional SkillsUSA members and instructors and more than one thousand corporations, trade associations and labor unions around the country actively support SkillsUSA.
Lower Township
The Acme of North Cape May recently gave tours to all of the preschool classes from Lower Township Memorial School. Miss Stella gave an awesome tour of the store!
The children loved touring and tasting goodies from the produce department, the bakery, and the deli. They loved going in the meat room and the freezer.
They came home with lots of goodies too!
St. Ann’s
Come celebrate the 84 years of education St. Ann School has provided the communities of Cape May County. Walk down memory lane with current students and faculty as well as former classmates teachers, and staff.
The former school communities of St. Ann, St. Raymond, and Our Lady of Star of the Sea will come together in September as Cape Trinity Catholic. 10:30 AM—Alumni Family Mass at St. Ann Church 11:30 AM— Light breakfast buffet in the school auditorium.
There is no cost to attend the breakfast but RSVP is necessary.
