Bishop McHugh
The Knights of Columbus Madonna Maria Council held their annual Foul Shooting contest at Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School on January 10. More than 10 volunteers and over 40 participants (and their parents) gathered for the event, organized by Joe Koch of the Knights of Columbus. The winners of the competition will go on to compete at the district level at a date to be determined. The winners included Clyeth Panesso, Julia Sittineri, Samantha Marks, Delaney Larkin, Samantha Andress, Justin Klemick, Kieran Kelly, Cole McIntyre, Matthew Kemenosh, Ben Church, Emily Pasceri, and Will McGinn.
Augostina Mallous, an 8th grade student at Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School, and her eighth grade class are holding a Dance-A-Thon on January 18, from 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to raise funds for the Dizzy Feet Foundation. Mallous is Miss Coastal Shores Outstanding Teen and the fundraiser is part of her platform, “Changing Lives Through Dance.”
The Dance-A-Thon will feature dancing, prizes, pizza and a live DJ. Admission is $10 for students age 12 and under, and $15 for students and adults age 13 or older. Donations also are welcome. The event will be held at Bishop McHugh, located at 2221 Route 9 North in Clermont between Sea Isle and Avalon on Route 9 at Mile Post 20.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dizzy Feet Foundation, founded in 2009 to increase access to dance education in the United States. The organization sponsors and funds dance education programs, which expose children in low-income areas to the lifelong benefits of dance. It also provides scholarships to students studying at accredited or nationally regarded dance schools, studios, or institutions. For more information, visit the Dizzy Feet Foundation online at http://dizzyfeetfoundation.org.
It’s National Catholic Schools Week from January 25 to 31, and the community is invited to celebrate with the staff and students at Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School. The school is hosting a week filled with activity, and its doors are open for visitors who are interested in learning more about Catholic education.
National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week. This year’s theme is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” Schools typically observe the annual celebration week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation.

Prayer Partners, is a weekly session among the student body, devoted to prayer and praise. Junior High and High School students are paired with an elementary student for the school year. Every Thursday, before lunch, they gather, the older students leading the younger ones in prayer. Often special bonds of friendship are made.
Middle Township
A few years ago David Joslin was jumping out of airplanes as a paratrooper in North Carolina. On February 6, he will stay on the ground while helping students jump start their careers at Middle Township High School.
Joslin changed his own career when he jumped from the Army to education and eventually to guidance counselor at his Middle Township alma mater. Last year, his first on the faculty, he started something that the school never had, certainly not when he was a student there.
He called it Career Day and he arranged for representatives of more than 25 professions and vocations to come to the high school and talk about their careers. Among them were lawyers, doctors, actors, a Radio City Music Hall Rockette, and management personnel from Wawa.
Impressed by the response, Joslin is planning an even bigger event for this year. Nearly 30 representatives of diverse careers will be on hand, and he will add a keynote speaker to address the entire student body at The Performing Arts Center before they disburse into smaller groups.
“Last year was an experiment to see how it would work and I received such enthusiastic response from speakers and students that I decided to jump ahead without a parachute and make it an annual event,” said Joslin.

Spout Off

Dennisville – As a parent of a Tech student it would be great if the school would update their staff directory. So many old staff still listed and no new teachers listed. What gives?
