ERMA – LEAD Day for Lower Township Elementary school students was May 23. Lower Township Police Department organized the field trip for the students to help educate and raise awareness about drug abuse. The L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) program makes it possible for officers of the law to connect with educators in their area to help raise awareness about the growing drug addiction epidemic.
Patrolman Eric Coombs led his fellow officers and assisting emergency service departments in organizing the day’s activities. Students got to have fun while learning about how the different parts of law enforcement and emergency services work to keep their communities safe.
The students who visited Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum for the day got to see demonstrations with the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit and the power in the “Jaws of Life” with Erma and Villas fire departments. Students also had the opportunity to partake in a host of other activities like using an actual fire hose, playing in bounce houses, and exploring the museum. The cooperation between the local police and emergency service departments made the educational experience a successful and memorable day for everyone.
