MAYS LANDING – U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) announced the first day of the 2016 Congressional App Challenge. This is the third year of the Challenge and the third year the New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional district has participated. The 2016 submission period will run from now through Nov. 2, 2016. The competition is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience.
“For the past two years, high school students across South Jersey have accepted the challenge to demonstrate their ingenuity by designing and deploying applications that can simplify our daily lives. I have been impressed by the apps created thus far and am excited to again have my office host the Congressional App Challenge,” said LoBiondo.  “I strongly encourage students interested in STEM programs to consider entering the Congressional App Challenge and create forward-looking technology.”
The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide competition aimed at encouraging high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications for mobile devices. The Challenge seeks to highlight the value of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education while spurring friendly competition between competing teams.
In 2015, eight teams comprised of twenty-eight students across South Jersey competed. The winning team was from Cumberland Regional High School. Winners from each participating Congressional district have their apps featured on a display in the U.S. Capitol building and on the Congressional App Challenge website: www.congressionalappchallenge.us
Interested applicants can find complete details regarding the competition available at the Congressman’s official website – www.lobiondo.house.gov – or by calling his Mays Landing office at 609-625-5008 or toll-free 1-800-471-4450.
