Eighth grade students honor friend

By On Deck Staff

Given the opportunity to dress down, these eighth grade students decided to dress up instead to honor their friend, Our Lady Star of the Sea Regional School volunteer Charles Saunders.
A resident of Victorian Commons, Mr. Saunders has been a long time fixture at the school.
His volunteer service began when his grandchildren were students at the school.
Twenty-five years later, he can still be seen on Lafayette Street greeting the children as they enter each morning.
He holds a special place in the heart of all those who have been affiliated with the school during this time.
Last year, Mr. Saunders lost his wife Myrtle to pancreatic cancer.
School students and faculty were given the opportunity to wear “dress down” instead of their standard uniform in exchange for a donation to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network honoring the Saunders family.
