Crest Students Honored for Good Writing

By Maureen Cawley

22 Crest Memorial School students in grades 3 through 8 who have produced exemplary written work were recently rewarded with a pizza party and prominent display of their compositions.
Named to Crest Memorial’s Principal’s Corner for November/December were third-graders Michael Chiolo, Genevieve Heym, Mitchell Garrabrant and Jonathan Hesley; fourth-graders James Werba, Madison Hunt, Austin Thompson, Jake Ferry and Tyler Johnson; fifth-graders Eric Sorensen, Justin Feraco, Daniel Johnson and Jackson Rogers; sixth-graders Michael Daddi, Meg Ziemba and Grace Rogers; seventh-graders Jordan Sedotti, Carley Nichols, Anthony Chiolo and Joe Farmer; and eighth-graders Chris Samartino and Donny Long.
The Principal’s Corner was originated by Crest Memorial Principal, Ann-Maria Guevara, an educator who strives to improve students’ writing skills through encouragement and ex-ample. The work of young writers is exhibited in the main entrance to the school, and they were treated to a pizza lunch with Guevara. During the lunch, students discussed their es-says with the principal. Those achieving Principal’s Corner received a certificate commend-ing them for their writing excellence.
The topics and styles for student writing showcased on the Principal’s Corner bulletin board are varied, ranging from book reports and essays to poetry throughout the year. The student compositions will remain on the Principal’s Corner bulletin board for the next eight weeks.
