WILDWOOD CREST – Seventh-grade Crest Memorial School student Obed Pelaez was the winner of the school’s spelling bee held Feb. 21. He goes on to compete in the regional bee next month as part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Palaez won the top spot for the middle school portion of the school’s contest by correctly spelling “chimera” and “querulous.” Taking second place in the competition was eighth-grade student Anders Marius, and third place went to seventh-grade student Erick Feria.
In the elementary school competition, third-grade student Rayane Cherifi placed first. He was followed by fourth-graders Luke Masterson and Michael McGee, who played to a tie for second after more than 50 rounds.
