CAPE MAY — Cape May Elementary School students in the third through sixth grades competed in a triathlon Thursday May 21 combining swimming in the school’s pool, bike riding and running.
It was the fourth annual event held with the help of parents, Cape May Police and Cape May Fire Police.
Physical Education Teacher Thomas Holden said students could race as an individual and do all three events or be part of a relay and choose whether they want to run, swim or bike.
Tuckahoe Bike Shop donated a new bike as prize for the overall winner of the event. Prize donations also came from Casale Shoes, Sports N’ Stuff and Swain’s Hardware, said Holden.
Students swam 200 yards in the school’s indoor pool, rode about a mile and three quarters on a bike on a closed course on Lafayette Street and a ran three quarter mile run on the athletic field.
“It’s a good distance for these guys,” said Holden. “It’s challenging but no unattainable.”
