Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County to Host Free Talk on Mosquito Management

COURT HOUSE – The Agriculture and Natural Resources Department of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County will host a presentation on Integrated Mosquito Management in Cape May County June 18 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Rutgers Cooperative Extension, 355 Court House-South Dennis Road, Court House. 
According to a release, this program is part of a new series, Informational Talks for the Home Gardener, designed to provide free, one hour informational classes for the public.
This class will feature speaker Kyle Rossner, entomologist with the county Department of Mosquito Control.
Rossner will discuss the basics of mosquito biology, the history of mosquito management, the need for mosquito management in the area, surveillance and management methods, what people can do to manage mosquitoes on their properties, and how the department works to monitor and manage mosquito populations in Cape May County.
Jennifer Sawyer, Rutgers Master Gardener coordinator Cape May County, stated, “Everyone is aware of the nuisance factor mosquitoes create but they are also capable of transmitting disease.” “Knowing management measures in place and how you can help is important,” added Sawyer.
The Cape May County Department of Mosquito Control’s objective is to manage mosquito populations using an integrated control approach, stressing environmental safety, economics, efficacy, research and surveillance in order to protect the health and welfare of the citizens and visitors of Cape May County.
