Patriot soldiers of the Continental Army and Loyalist militia will bring the American Revolution to life on the grounds of Historic Cold Spring Village, Sept. 5-6 for the Village’s popular Revolutionary War Encampment.
Authentically clad and equipped living history re-enactors from Morgan’s Rifle Corps, founded in 1775, and Lamb’s Artillery, will recreate a camp of the Continental Army.
Visitors can see demonstrations of drill, weapons, equipment, and camp life. Civilian re-enactors will demonstrate the role played by typical Americans of the period in supporting the army.
Throughout the weekend, Lamb’s Artillery will demonstrate the loading and firing of their period cannon.
“This is one of my favorite events; New Jersey played a vital role in the Revolution and the re-enactors do a fantastic job of bringing that story to life for our visitors,” said Jim Stephens, HCSV deputy director for Education and Interpretation.
Stephens, who was recently appointed to the New Jersey Civil War 150th Anniversary Committee, will be giving a special presentation on The Story of Old Glory at 1:30 p.m. both days of the event.
Historic Cold Spring Village is a non-profit, open air living history museum that portrays the daily life of a rural South Jersey community of the Early American era. It features 26 restored historic structures on a wooded 22-acre site.
Interpreters and artisans in period clothing preserve the trades, crafts and heritage of “the age of homespun.”
It’s located on Route 9, three miles north of Victorian Cape May and a mile and a half west of the southern terminus of the Garden State Parkway.
