The youth of the Light House Church has raised thousands of dollars in support of causes around the world.
In July, Vacation Bible School, themed “Miraculous Mission: Jesus Saves the World” had a total of 184 children. They exceeded expectations as they raised roughly $1,198 for Hope for Haiti’s Children, with $480 going to sponsor a child.
Through a child education sponsorship, the church is helping lift a child out of poverty, and providing them the hope for a better life with a Christian education. The remaining funds will go to the Children’s Food Fund, which feeds over 1,000 children each week.
Throughout Haiti, hunger and malnutrition threaten to destroy the lives of children, with many children eating one meal daily. This program provides food to their supported schools and orphanages.
As a celebration of the fundraiser, 184 children took their turn in sliming the church staff.
The youth of the church also adopted a mission to join the fight against human trafficking.
According to the International Justice Mission, there are more than 40 million slaves in the world today—men, women, and children living in fear and being forced to work. The Lighthouse Church youth took part in a life changing experience that awakened them to the harsh realities of modern-day slavery and examples of human trafficking.
Sharing a belief for justice, the young group created a “pop-up” thrift store. The store will be open to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, throughout September. The proceeds are going to the A21 Campaign, an organization that is hands-on in reaching, rescuing, and restoring survivors of human trafficking. In the first four days of the store being opened, $957 had been donated.
