The Christ Child Society of Cape May County received its charter from the National Christ Child Society in 1984. Since then they have grown to an organization of approximately 60 members, whose goal is to address the needs of infants and children in Cape May County as well as in portions of Atlantic county. The motto of National and all of its affiliates is: “Challenging Poverty, One Child at A Time.”
Without any grant funding, the Christ Child Society supplies needy infants and children with cribs, car seats, diapers, wipes, complete infant layettes, new and gently used clothing and shoe vouchers. The Christ Child Society has provided 648 new winter coats for pre-school to middle school children this past year. Sweatpants and underwear are provided for special needs children. Food banks receive diapers, wipes, formula and if needed, baby food. In the words of our founder, Mary Virginia Merrick, “To see a need is to fill it.” They do this primarily by working with 30 social service agencies and Christ Child Society volunteers.
Currently, the Christ Child Society is seeking opportunities for hands-on assistance to children. The goal is to reach out to those who want to help this organization in its various ways. For example, Christ Child Society wants to support programs that address the development of language and literacy, for this is essential for academic and eventually economic success.
A good deal of Christ Child Society’s effort is expended on fundraising in order to provide the material goods noted. Their Spring Fling theme for this year is “Swing into Spring.” This annual luncheon held in Cape May on April 24 is a major fundraising event; prize raffles and a Chinese auction add fun and profit to the day. They host a baby shower in October to which guests contribute a layette item. In December, members contribute underwear, sweatpants and toys when they attend the Red Wagon luncheon.

Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
