By Press Release

STONE HARBOR – The Stephen C. Ludlam Post 331 of The American Legion and the Sons of The American Legion Squadron 331 (S.A.L. Sqdn 331), serving the communities of Avalon and Stone Harbor, co-hosted the annual spaghetti dinner at the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor Sept. 15.
According to a release, the co-chairs of the event were Jon Ready (Post 331) and Joe Filacheck (S.A.L. Sqdn 331).
In the past, the proceeds of this fundraiser were divided among multiple veterans and community organizations.
This year, for the first time, the membership of both American Legion organizations voted to donate the money raised as a lump sum to a specific veterans’ organization, the Del Haven Chapter 44 of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
That organization provides transportation for Cape May County veterans to U.S. Ddepartment of Veterans Affairs hospitals in Wilmington, Del.,and Philadelphia, and to local clinics and hospitals for non-emergency care.
The Invocation was given by Rev. Deb Moore, founder of Sunrise on Sunday and Flags of Liberty in North Wildwood.
Over 300 guests attended and the total raised for the DAV was $5,135. Post 331 Commander Tom McCullough, Post 331 Trustee Jon Ready, and S.A.L. Sqdn 331 member Joe Filacheck presented the DAV Chapter Commander, Mike Houck, with a check for $3,500 as an interim payment of the donation.
An additional check for $1,635 will be presented at the DAV chapter’s next meeting.
Several members of the DAV chapter were present and the van was parked by the club’s entrance so guests could see it and be reminded as to where the fundraising proceeds were going.
