October booms in Sea Isle City

October will be the host of many 2009 fall events in Sea Isle City for the 2009 Season, beginning with Harborfest Weekend, sponsored by Sea Isle Revitalization.
This event will kick-off the month of October with an all-day festival Oct. 3, from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. at 42nd Place and The Bay. Rain date will be Oct. 4.
There will be fresh seafood and beverages, along with a host of activities that will include maritime exhibits, fishing demonstrations, boat shows and rides, craft vendors, a children’s fun area, music, and a clam eating contest.
Next up on Saturday evening is the Baby Boomers Rock ‘n Roll Revival Fundraiser with local D.J. personality Jerry Blavat.
The fundraiser returns this year to the LaCosta Lounge, JFK Boulevard and Landis Ave. from 8:30 p.m.-1 a.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 and include a free buffet.
October 4 concludes the weekend with the 35th Annual Firefighters Memorial 5K Run. The race is hosted by the Philadelphia Fire Fighters Union, Local #22 I.A.F.F. It honors the eight firefighters killed in the 1975 fire at the Gulf Oil Refinery in Philadelphia, Pa.
Events begin at 9:30 a.m. with number pick-up and race day registration at the Beach Tag Office, 125 JFK Boulevard. A mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, 44th Street and Landis Avenue, at 10 a.m.
The race will begin at 11 a.m. and take place at JFK Boulevard and The Promenade. Following, there will be a free awards luncheon at noon at the Ocean Drive, 40th St. and Landis Ave. Registration forms may be downloaded online at www.iaff.org or http://aksts.com/events.htm.
Oct. 10 begins with the Charlotte C. Moretti Race for the Cure 5K Run and Fun Walk, sponsored by the AARP Chapter 710. The race will be held at JFK Boulevard and The Promenade, with a $20 participation fee for runners and a $10 participation fee for walkers.
Registration begins at 8 a.m.; the run begins at 9 a.m. and the walk will take place at 9:05 a.m. All proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Continuing through Saturday, there will be the annual Italian Festival, sponsored by Kix-McNutley’s and LaCosta Lounge.
The festival will be held at Kix-McNutley’s, 63rd Street and Central Avenue, from 1-8 p.m. There will be vendors with food, beverages, and Italian memorabilia, as well as entertainment by the famous “Geator with the Heater,” Jerry Blavat. During the event the annual Columbus Day Parade will take place at 2 p.m., beginning at the Italian American Club, JFK and LaRosa Way, and make its way to the festival.
October continues into week three with the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission’s Beach Clean Up and Dune Grass Planting on Oct. 17. Participants will meet at JFK Boulevard and The Promenade at 10 a.m. and work until noon cleaning and/or planting dune grass on all the beaches.
The Halloween Parade sponsored by the Sea Isle City Recreation Department takes place Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. Pre-registration is required and forms can be downloaded at www.seaislecitynj.us.
Forms are due Oct. 16 and can be mailed to the SIC Recreation Department, 6108 Central Avenue, Sea Isle City, NJ 08243. Rain date for the event is Oct. 25 at noon.
Oct. 24 is Octoberfest, sponsored by the Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce, taking place at different areas along JFK Boulevard from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
There will be basketball contests, hay rides on the beach, face painting, pumpkin painting, and various other games and activities throughout the day. There will also be vehicle demonstrations by Sea Isle City’s Ambulance Corps, Fire, and Police Departments.
