OCEAN CITY – In March, 2014, approximately 500 students from across the state convened in Ocean City for the sixth-annual New Jersey Clean Communities Environmental Student Exchange.
According to a release, throughout the day, students participated in activities and games that focused heavily on Superstorm Sandy’s impact on the beaches and bays of Ocean City.
It was a tremendous educational opportunity; none of it possible without Charlotte Moyer, Ocean City’s supervisor for the Department of Public Works.
Moyer was instrumental in the planning, coordination, and organizing of this signature NJCCC event, which included an overnight stay and a roundtable discussion.
For her passion towards educating youth about the environment, Moyer has received the New Jersey Clean Communities Council’s (NJCCC) “Clean Communities Environmental Student Exchange Award.”
“I truly enjoyed being part of this event,” Moyer stated. “The students and teachers were great and the ideas, discussion, and commitment to addressing so many environmental issues were just amazing.”
Since her involvement in 2014, Moyer has been involved with every annual student exchange. The event was also held in Ocean City last year.
“I believe that I get as much, if not more, from this event as the students do,” Moyer stated. “Seeing teachers incorporate more about the environment into their lesson plans and being able to see former students come back and share in the experience…it’s just an absolutely wonderful event.”
NJCCC is a comprehensive, statewide litter-abatement program that has served New Jersey residents and visitors for more than 25 years. Learn more at njclean.org.
