STARR, SR., ROBERT SCOTT

STARR, SR., ROBERT SCOTT, 88, passed away on July 31, 2016 surrounded by his family. Son of the late Robert B. Starr and Frances Ely Starr, Bob was born in Collingdale, PA on September 13, 1927. He graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia in 1950 and was a pharmaceutical sales representative for Smith Kline & French and later Dow Chemical. A summer resident of North Wildwood as a youngster and a year-round resident since 1966, Bob loved the shore, and the city. He was a lifeguard on the North Wildwood Beach Patrol, was elected to City Council and served as Director of Public Safety. In retirement he could be found at the municipal boat ramp where he was employed for more than twenty years. Eager to remain active and to serve, Bob was appointed by the governor to the NJ Maritime Pilot and Docking Pilot Commission, tasked with oversight of the Sandy Hook Pilots Association and the Harbor Pilots of NJ/NY. Bob was a proud veteran who had a deep respect and appreciation for the military, particularly the U.S. Navy. He was a U.S. Naval Academy Blue and Gold Officer, performing counseling and interviewing students applying for admission. Having many of his candidates selected to attend the Academy was among Bob’s most gratifying accomplishments. A fixture on his home’s front porch, Bob always had the time to chat, trade stories about classic cars and his nautical artifacts collection or provide advice. As they say, there truly were no strangers to Bob – merely friends he had not yet met. He was a devout Catholic who adored his family, appreciated the gift of each new day, and touched many lives. Bob is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 63 years Joan Wolf Starr, children Bob Starr Jr. (Geri), Sue Delinski, Connie Starr, grandchildren Courtney Hearon (Jason), Erik Delinski (Josie), Chris Hackett (Andy), Andrew Hackett, Scott Hackett, Matt Starr, Brooke Cline (Will) and great grandchildren Ryan Hearon, Paige Hearon and Boden Delinski. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Notre Dame de la Mer Parish, St. Ann’s Church, 2901 Atlantic Avenue, Wildwood, NJ, 08260. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Children’s Fresh Air Home, P.O. Box 413, Haddonfield, NJ 08033 or via www.freshairhome.org. Donations should indicate in memory of Robert S. Starr. Condolences at www.radzieta.com
