ROSCOE, VIRGINIA L., 90, of Chandler Hall, Newtown, PA, formerly of Northeast Philadelphia and Feasterville, PA, and summer resident of Stone Harbor, NJ for 51 years, passed away September 29, 2011. Born January 15, 1921 in Grand Rapids, MI, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Constantine R. Roscoe, MD. Virginia was an avid reader and a lover of life and had a wit that left people smiling. She is survived by her 7 children: Jennifer (Howard) Gillis of Shalimar, FL, John (Candace) Roscoe of Holland, PA, Jolanthe Roscoe of Feasterville, PA, Virginia (T.Harold, deceased) Gandy of Green Creek, NJ, Constance (Derek) Longo of Ivyland, PA, Alice (Michael) Crayton of Hockessin, DE, and Peter (Patricia) Roscoe of Abington, PA. She loved her 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Virginia was a World War II veteran who served with the 29th Field Hospital in the US Army Nurse Corps and was one of 18 nurses, the first US women, to land on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. She served in many battles in Northern France and Belgium, where she met her “True Love”, Constantine. Together they built a life of love revolving around family, travel, and the medical profession. Services will be held where she was a founding member of the congregation, The Reformed Church of Willow Grove, at 11 AM Tuesday, October 4, 2011.
