DUNWOODY, JOHN FOSTER

John Foster Dunwoody, 79, passed away at his home in Springfield, PA on August 2 in the loving embrace of his wife, Mary Ann Dunwoody (Breen-Cahalan).John was a loving, generous and community-oriented man who put his family above all else. He was also known for his infectious sense of humor and ability to tell a great story.John was fortunate to have two great loves in his life: Donna K. Dunwoody (Ehrhardt) and Mary Dunwoody. With Donna, John shared nearly 40 years of marriage and three children: John Patrick Dunwoody, Michael Barry Dunwoody, and Mary Kathleen “Kate” Patarcity (Dunwoody). John and Donna ran a bed and breakfast in Cape May, NJ for more than a decade. Their adventures were many, and were filled with love, humor and a few Manhattans. Donna passed away in 2002.With Mary, John found love again, and together they enjoyed their shared grandchildren. John’s son John Patrick and his wife Susan brought his first grandsons, Steven and Justin Dunwoody. Steven married Aga and had the first great-grandchild, Jacob. John’s daughter Kate and her husband Jason Patarcity welcomed Shane to their lives. Mary’s son Timothy and wife Kathy brought Tyler and Stella Cahalan, while Mary’s daughter Meghan and husband Jim Ascuitto brought Jimmy and Cassie.Mary’s strength and tenderness carried John through his dual battles with lymphoma and Parkinson’s Disease. Like a steel magnolia, Mary was John’s rock.John’s love of family began with his birth on May 5, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the second of what would become five brothers: Gerard, William, Philip, and Kevin. The five brothers together fostered what would become known as Clan Dunwoody, a nod to their Irish heritage, and include 14 nieces and nephews, growing still in extended nieces and nephews.Services will be held on August 10, with visitation from 9am to 11am, followed by mass, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Ave., Springfield, PA 19064. A burial in Cape May, NJ will follow at a later date.In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Parkinson’s Council, 555 E.
