MAGLIO (NEE FRITZ), CATHERINE, Better known as Cathe, age: none of your business, went on the journey of a life time, December 4, 2017. Cathe was born in North Wildwood, NJ to William Joseph Fritz and Caroline Fritz. Working at a young age at her parents Dry Goods Store on 17th, called Fritz Dry Goods. Cathe loved to drive her mother crazy, being a tom boy, playing on the train that ran through the Wildwoods, climbing trees, enjoying the summer on the beaches of the Wildwoods, or going to the boardwalk, listening to bands play at the Starlight Ballroom. Cathe started school early, challenging the brightest, and out shining the rest. As an accomplished musician, Cathe would fill in for band members at Hadden Hall, warming up stars like Kate Smith, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. Afterwords, hanging out at the Harlem Club in Atlantic City, where they made the BEST RIBS she has ever tasted. Cathe also worked for the Miss America Organization sewing all the costumes for the Miss America Contestants and making the costumes for the Miss America Parade. Philadelphia called her, and Bookbinders was lucky enough to have her. Cathe with her astonishing looks and great sense of humor made friends with Betty Davis, John Kennedy, Eddie Fisher, Elizabeth Taylor, Jimmy Hoffa and her favorite guest, Hellen Keller, because she never complained about anything. Later, you could find Cathe and her husband Pat on their boat, Cloud Nine, cruising the Cape May Harbor, fishing and enjoying a cocktail or two. Cathe is enjoying her favorite cocktails of gin or beer with her husband Pat Maglio, her sister Margaret Abel, her mother and father William and Caroline Fritz and her beloved dogs, Shatzi and Oreo. Those who are left to get their own cocktails are her beloved niece, Lisa Reisack and her husband Bill, her dear friend Tammy and her daughter Annika, a brother Bill, and nephews. Cathe had only one regret in life, she married too soon. Her traveling around the world slowed down when she married Pat at the age of 45. A pioneer in her own right, Cathe lived her life her way. No one could tell her what to do, how to think, or where to work. “There are so many more places I’d love to have visited and seen, but my favorite has been being in audience with two Popes.” Cathe’s Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday (Dec. 16th) at 11am in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 525 Washington St., Cape May where friends will be received from 10:30am until 11am. Interment will follow Mass in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cape May. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Lazarus House of Wildwood, PO Box 1792, Wildwood, NJ 08260.
