Middle Township to Hold Accelerated Tax Sale, Dec. 14

MT Logo

By Press Release

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP – In accordance with N.J.S.A. 54:5-19, the Township of Middle will be holding an accelerated tax sale Dec. 14, 2016.
It is the obligation of the tax collector to collect all of the property taxes, sewer and other municipal charges in the year that they are due.  This helps to greatly reduce the reserve for uncollected taxes, helping to keep the tax levy flat.  Notices are mailed throughout the year for past due property taxes and sewer; information was also included with the tax bills that were mailed in July with reference to the tax sale process and the fees associated with the same.
To avoid the tax sale process, property owners must pay all municipal charges in full by November 10, 2016. If there is any delinquency after November 10, 2016, the Township then cannot accept personal, business, electronic, internet, online banking checks or credit/debit card payments.  In accordance with state statutes, the Collector’s office will only accept cashier’s checks, money orders or cash brought into the office.  The Township cannot deviate from the law.  The fees associated with two mailings at $25 each will also be added to the tax sale amount in accordance with Middle Township Ordinance 1354.10.
The tax sale list will be published in the Herald Newspaper as well as on the Township website www.middletownship.com.  Tax and sewer payments must be separate and it is suggested that residents contact the Collector’s office for the correct amount due. The Tax Collector’s Office can be reached at 609-465-8724.  Please note that the phones will be extremely busy throughout November until after the tax sale Dec. 14.  When representatives are unable to answer the phone it is generally because they are either on another line or helping someone; callers are encouraged to please leave a message and their calls will be returned promptly. Taxpayers are asked to avoid calling other offices within the Township for tax-related questions as they do not have access to tax records.  The Township thanks the taxpayers for their understanding and appreciates timely payments and patience during this time.
