Administrative Lieutenant/Accreditation Manager

In the year 2000, I was assigned to the position of Administrative Lieutenant/Accreditation Manager. In this capacity, I was responsible for the managing and coordinating the entire Sheriff’s Department training program. At the same time, I was charged with overseeing the Correctional Division’s first accreditation by the American Correctional Association.

Experiences Obtained

As the Lieutenant in charge of training, I was responsible for coordinating the training schedule for the Sheriff’s Office. I was also responsible to ensure that the Sheriff’s Office training program complied with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, the Police Training Commission and the Department of Corrections requirements. I was further responsible for bringing the Correctional Center into compliance with the nationally recognized training standards of the American Correctional Association. As a result, I updated the department’s in-service training program, instituted the Sheriff’s Office first Field Training Officer Program, re-wrote its orientation training program for new Officers and started the Bona Fide Occupational Qualification process. Because of these accomplishments, the Sheriff’s Office was positioned to hire additional female officers and offer better opportunities for their career advancements.

As the Correctional Center’s Accreditation Manager, I was responsible for managing the process of achieving accreditation by the American Correctional Association (ACA). ACA is a nationally recognized organization that developed over 400 standards they identify as best practices for operating Correctional Facilities throughout the country. As the first Accreditation Manager, I worked with other staff and professionals in the Sheriff’s Office to institute a multitude of policy changes resulting from the accreditation process.

As Sheriff

These experiences readily apply to the role of Sheriff. As Sheriff, I will work to unify the divisions within the Sheriff’s Office. I will bring a diversified teamwork approach that encourages and fosters new ideas, and promotes training and advancement opportunities for all staff members.
