WILDWOOD – A July Fourth concert featuring country music legend Tim McGraw not only brought a star-spangled lineup of music to Wildwood’s world-famous beach, it also proved the city ranks as one of the top concert venues in the nation.
“Our beach is the perfect place for a summer concert,” said Commissioner Pete Byron. “The Tim McGraw concert showed the city has the know-how to offer promoters and music lovers a first-class concert experience.”
The city’s long history as a summertime music mecca took a hit with the advent of casino gambling and shows in neighboring counties. By bringing concerts to Wildwood’s wide beach, the city is putting itself back on the map as a premier summertime entertainment venue.
“Tens of thousands of people enjoyed the Tim McGraw concert,” said Byron. “Not even the rain could dampen their enthusiasm or fun.”
According to the commissioner, the Fourth of July concert also generated additional tourism dollars for local hotels, restaurants and merchants.
“With the Fourth of July being on a Monday, people stayed over an additional day rather than drive home,” he said. “That generated a lot of opportunity for the local economy.”
From a municipal perspective, the concert was flawless. City departments such as police, fire, beach patrol, beach services and public works were all called into service.
“The concert would not have been possible without those departments who worked behind the scenes to make it a great experience,” Byron said. “The people who worked to make the concert happen deserve a loud round of applause.”
