Lower Township Students Learn from Fire Safety Bureau

Pupil "escapes" from simulated fire during training  session at Maud Abrams and Carl Mitnick schools recently.

By Press Release

COLD SPRING – The Lower Township Bureau of Fire Safety spent several hours each day with classes from Carl T. Mitnick and Maud Abrams Schools from Nov. 13-21 instructing the elementary students on fire safety and fire evacuation procedures.
Each class had an opportunity to visit the Fire Safety House.  The students learned how to identify and correct hazards in the kitchen and living areas.
Then in small groups, they went into a bedroom area of the mobile classroom to listen for smoke detectors going off.  The students practiced evacuations by crawling under simulated “smoke” and feel for heat in the bedroom door.
They then had to decide if it was safe to open the bedroom door or escape out the bedroom window.
The Lower Township Bureau of Fire Safety extended thanks to Tri-County Building Supply for donating siding for the Fire Safety House and to Lower Township Public Works for installing the siding and to Cape Island Graphics for the new graphics on the trailer.
