LOWER TOWNSHIP – Grab your finest suspenders and pocket protectors, The Nerds are hitting the stage at the Cape May – Lewes Ferry July 25.
The Nerds first came together in the summer of 1985, when most bars and clubs were filled with hair-metal and synth pop new wave bands. The Nerds, known by their stage names Spaz, Mongo, Stretch and Biff wanted to stand out and be different. They formed a band called The Nerds, loosely based on an old skit from Saturday Night Live – not the Nerd movies.
The Nerds, dress and act like nerds, but play lots of R&B and funk music. Their stage show and banter is largely influenced by Monty Python and David Letterman’s love of the absurd and Howard Stern’s disregard for tact. More often than not, pointless arguments onstage about trivial matters become a regular part of the act.
The Nerds have performed on “The View”, Carson Daly, and played many celebrity hosted events for A&E, “The Ed Show” and “Book of Daniel”. They have shared a stage with Sheryl Crow, Hootie and the Blowfish, Earth Wind and Fire, Train, The Go-Gos, Maroon 5, Southside Johnny, and more.
For over 30 years, the band has cultivated thousands of fans across generations by making an impression one show at a time. You can’t help but have fun when you spend an evening with the Nerds. Enjoy an evening of sheer entertainment with the band that combines high energy rock n’ roll with a stage show of pure talent and comedy.
