Lower Cape May Regional High School Hosts ‘ Girlz Rule’ Conference

CAPE MAY – Soroptimist International is a global organization that has a chapter in Cape May County with a membership of 60.  Their focus is to empower women and young girls, granting awards and fundraising to support those in need in Cape May County, NJ. Co-Chairs of the event were Stace Pashuck, Lin McBride and Mary Rose Bispels, a teacher at Lower Cape May Regional High School.

Nov. 19the GIRLZ RULE conference was held at Lower Cape May Regional High School.  This is a free conference subsidized by the Soroptimist International of Cape May County for Cape May County girls in grades 5 and 6.  Three workshops were offered to give the girls some tools they need to succeed which included: Exercise through Zumba, presented by Mirsha Serra and Kim Gunst of North Cape May Fitness Center; Cyber Safety and Bullying presented by Sgt. Denise Holt of Wildwood Crest Police Department and for added fun a jewelry making workshop conducted by Soroptimist Anna Marie Marrollo.

The keynote address was presented by Anne Marie Chelius of Atlantic Cape College Culinary Arts. Free breakfast and lunch were served. An important component of this event was the presence of the Lower Cape May Regional High School juniors and seniors who were chosen to participate for having exhibited their leadership skills.  The high school ladies, under the guidance of their advisor, Mary Rose Bispels, were teamed up with the 5th and 6th grade girls to act as mentors and buddies for the day.
