CAPE MAY – For the entire month of November, the Lower Township Police Department, the Cape May Police Department, as well as many other agencies across the county, will be participating in “No-Shave November”.
One of the goals of “No–Shave November” is to raise cancer awareness by embracing our hair (which many cancer patients lose), and letting it grow wild and free. Another goal is to use the money you typically would spend on shaving and grooming, to educate about cancer prevention, save lives and aid those fighting the battle.
This year, all proceeds will go to a 6 year-old Cape May County resident, Joey Povio, who was diagnosed with a rare eye cancer, retinoblastoma, in July of this year. This initiative will help pay for medical and travel expenses for Joey’s treatment.
So don’t be shocked when you see one of your local officers sporting a beard, goatee or a longer than usual hair length, it’s all for a good cause! If anyone else would like to donate to this worthy cause, we will also be collecting donations through November 30, 2016. All money collected will go directly to Joey’s family. Checks can be made out to Joey Povio. These donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Lower Township Police Department at 405 Breakwater R., Erma, NJ 08204.
The Cape May department has also set up a Go Fund Me account to allow people to donate to the cause. The link to this account can be found at the Cape May Police Department Facebook page, as well as the Facebook page for the City of Cape May.
