Local artists offer unique classes

Local artists Tina Giaimo and Janet Payne have teamed up to offer an array of art classes this summer for adults and children.
Tina Giaimo is an award-winning photographer and has taught for Center for Community Arts, Nature Center of Cape May and the Cape May County Library. Giaimo is offering two hands-on walking photography classes that will take a unique look at Cape May. Her work can be seen at Spirit Catcher Photography Gallery and Nature Center of Cape May.
Victorian Cape May class will begin with a brief discussion of composition and color at Spirit Catcher Photography Gallery, 31 Perry Street, before walking through the Victorian streets of Cape May photographing architecture, gardens and street scenes. Class will be offered on Monday or Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Fee is $25.
Nature Photography class will meet at Cape May Point Lighthouse. Students will walk the trails while learning the ins and outs of capturing birds, wildlife and nature through the lens focusing on light and action. Class will be offered Wednesday or Friday from 10-11 a.m. Fee is $25.

Janet Payne is an award winning artist, graphic designer and founding member of the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery. Payne has taught at Our Lady Star of the Sea School and West Cape May School as well as for the Center for Community Arts. She holds a BA in Fine Arts and is a NJ Certified Art Teacher K-12.
Payne’s blockprints are currently on exhibit at the Nature Center of Cape May and the County Library in Cape May.
In Linoleum Block Printing, students will learn to transfer their drawing and carve a block to print. Line, texture and contrast will be emphasized, with students printing on a variety of papers and note cards.
Class is offered Mondays 10am-noon, July 27, Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24.
In Introduction to Printmaking students will explore the art of printing from nature, Japanese Kyoto printing from a real fish, mono printing with paint and oil pastels and simple etchings. Class is offered Wednesdays 10am-noon, July 29, Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26.
Printmaking for Kids, ages 9-13, will explore the art of printing from nature, Japanese Gyotaku printing from a real fish, mono printing with paint and oil pastels and embossing with a small press. Wednesdays 1-3 p.m., July 29, Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26.
Additional classes include Nature Drawing, Pastels & Sculpture for Kids. Fee is $100 for five sessions, all materials included.
