Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Group to Hold Internet Safety Presentation

COURT HOUSE – Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group will hold a free information session on “Internet Safety” with representatives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Jan. 17, 2018.  The program will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County, 355 Courthouse-South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey. The building is handicap accessible.
Detectives Danielle Mitchell and Kyle MacDonald, of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, will talk to the group about Internet Safety. Topics discussed will include ethical decisions, personal safety, and personal responsibility. Internet safety encompasses everything from keeping personal information and passwords secure to social networking and safe communication with others online. Marilou Rochford, FCHS Health Educator said, “Internet Safety is of concern because it can lead to a variety of problems.” Rochford added, “Our grandparents are dealing with many new challenges, especially in the field of technology, as they take on the responsibility of raising their grandchildren. Our goal is to be a source of information and support for them in this endeavor.”
Childcare will be provided for the grandchildren.  A light supper will be served at 5:30p.m. and the program will follow at 6 p.m. There is no charge for this program, however, advanced registration is required.  Please call Marian at (609) 465-5115, ext. 3609 for more information or to register for the program.
The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group will meet monthly in 2018, except for the months of June and July when there are no scheduled meetings. Support for this program is provided by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Cape May County Division of Aging and Disability Services, and Rutgers Cooperative Extension.
