As the mayor of Middle Township, I support Cape May County Sheriff Robert Nolan’s efforts to simply do his job; protect the people of Cape May County, using all the legal and constitutional tools and partnerships at his disposal.
On Aug. 16, Deputy Mayor Ike Gandy and I voted in favor of a resolution supporting Sheriff Nolan and his legal and common sense approach to cooperating with federal law enforcement to keep illegal immigrants, WHO HAVE COMMITTED OTHER SERIOUS CRIMES, out of our community. Committeeman Mike Clark voted NO, choosing to defend the governor and support a radical, anti-law enforcement, Sanctuary state agenda.
We are blessed in Middle Township to avoid the acrimony of national politics most of the time. When these critical issues are thrust upon us, we must stay true to our duty. Our number one priority is always public safety.
Sadly, I feel that in this defining moment, when small towns across America are becoming the last bastion of sanity in government, Committeeman Clark has chosen protecting the governor politically, over protecting the safety of our residents. I say that reluctantly.
Mike and I agree on many things, but he is clearly getting bad advice from the left wing democrats influencing his re-election campaign.
On Friday, Sept. 27, the governor doubled down on his directives to handcuff law enforcement, when it comes to protecting our citizens from violent offenders in our country illegally. The sheriff has been given one week to cease important cooperation with federal immigration officials. In essence, via executive fiat, the governor is ordering the sheriff NOT to enforce the law.
The real world consequences of Gov. Murphy’s radical, leftist agenda are putting our families and children in danger. This isn’t opinion. It’s fact. Here is just one example, from Bridgeton, just a month ago, just a few miles from Middle Township.
Luciano Trejo-Dominguez is a Mexican national from Bridgeton who stands accused of sexually assaulting a teenager between the age of 13 and 15. On Aug. 23, Cumberland County Jail released Trejo-Dominguez in defiance of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer request. He’s still at-large.
Thanks to the courage shown by Sheriff Nolan and his commitment to the 527 program, this can’t happen right now in Cape May County. If the governor and the District 1 Democrat Candidates that support him get their way, it soon could. Dangerous offenders released from the county jail step right into the heart of Middle Township.
We need to stop this insanity. We need to elect real fighters, who will stand up for the law-abiding citizens AND the many, hard-working LEGAL immigrant families living in our town and in New Jersey’s 1st District. We need representatives who won’t go soft on crime, in the name of political correctness and socialist, open borders propaganda.
Sen. Andrzejczak, his Trenton Team and the entire Cape May County Democrat ticket have refused to challenge these dangerous sanctuary state policies and have taken no real steps to support Sheriff Nolan’s reasonable and responsible stand in defense of our small towns and the rule of law.
The Testa Team for District 1, Freeholders Thornton and Hayes and Jim Norris here in Middle Township have no qualms or reservations, when it comes to supporting law enforcement and protecting the residents of the 1st District. We proudly stand with Sheriff Nolan.
District 1 Democrats are putting politics before public safety. In doing so, they have betrayed the public trust. They must go.
