WILDWOOD – The Bulter Memorial Surf Team is gearing up for the yearly event that honors Charlie Butler, a decorated Vietnam veteran, who was a member of American Legion Post 184.
According to a release, the event will be held Aug. 10 on the Davis Avenue beach in Wildwood at 10 a.m.
This annual event provides adaptive surfing and participation in an other ocean activities for veterans and their families. Civilians with challenges are also welcome on this day. Generally, such water activities are unavailable to the differently abled without safe instruction and appropriate lifeguard presence.
In addition to the day’s events, lunch will be provided by the American Legion Post 184.
As in past years, the event will be co-sponsored by American Legion Post 184 and Kona Surf Company of Wildwood with support provided by Wildwood Beach Patrol, Fire and Police Departments, Billy’s Beach Service, and local surfers.
All new participantsare welcome and volunteers are always needed.
The event is free to all participants.
This year, in conjunction with the Charlie Butler Event, the Wildwood Navy Seal Challenge also takes place on Aug. 10 at 6 p.m.
