COURT HOUSE – Thirteen children ages 8 to 12 learned the basics of cooking at Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County Family & Community Health Sciences’ (FCHS) Junior Chefs I Cooking Camp held from July 9 through July 13.
The camp was one of two sessions scheduled this summer for aspiring young chefs. Junior Chefs II Class, which is sold out, will run from July 30 through Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rutgers Cooperative Extension, 355 Court House-South Dennis Road, Court House.
Marilou Rochford, MA, CFLE, Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family & Community Health Sciences Educator stated, “In Junior Chefs I Camp, the children learned about food safety, kitchen safety, how to read a recipe, how to measure liquid and dry ingredients, how to read a label, plus the importance of family meals, and eating colorful meals.
“Both camps are hands-on and teach the children cooking skills plus show them how to prepare a variety of foods and snacks incorporating nutrition education with food preparation lessons to encourage a lifetime of healthy eating habits.”
