VIDEO: Patients Assemble for Dr. Costino Outside North Wildwood Office

By Lauren Suit

NORTH WILDWOOD — A group of patients of Dr. John Costino, whose medical license was temporarily suspended, gathered in front of 404 Surf Avenue here on Jan. 7 in a show of support.
The state Board of Medical Examiners temporarily suspended Costino’s Dec. 17 following charges of drug distribution and insurance fraud. According to the county Prosecutor’s Of-fice, Costino’s arrest followed a long-term investigation into insurance fraud and illegal drug distribution. Costino maintains he is innocent of all charges.
The decision to suspend his license, according to Costino, has put many of his patients’ lives at risk.
Dennis McDonough, a patient of Costino’s for 30 years, handed out flyer and took time to talk to approximately 15 patients that had gathered outside of the office.
“It has become almost impossible to find another pain management physician certified for Suboxone treatment,” said McDonough. “I don’t want a new doctor. I want Dr. Costino to get his license back.”
“The state medical board should be ashamed,” he added.
The North Wildwood office is closed, except for transferring medical records, putting most of Costino’s staff out of work and leaving patients searching for a new doctor.
