COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Sheriff Gary Schaffer announced Friday, Feb. 13 that Officer Erick Teasenfitz was recognized as Explorer Advisor of the Year by the BaySea District of the Boy Scouts of America Program at their annual Fellowship Dinner held on Feb. 11.
According to a release, Teasenfitz was cited for his exceptional character and noteworthy service to the community and Explorer Post 1692.
Exploring is a worksite-based program. It is part of Learning for Life’s career education program for young men and women ages 14 to 20. Exploring’s purpose is to provide experiences that help young people mature and prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Explorers are ready to investigate the meaning of interdependence in their personal relationships and communities. The Sheriff’s Explorer post focuses on citizenship, life skills, character education, career and leadership opportunities.
“I am extremely proud of Officer Teasenfitz and his personal dedication to our Explorer post. He has committed not only his professional time but his personal time to make this program succeed. He is the type of officer that any executive would like to have on his team,” stated Schaffer.
Teasenfitz, a member of the Sheriff’s Department since 2005, is assigned to the K-9 Unit and is responsible for two K-9 partners “Bailey” for drug detection, and “Cyrus” for criminal apprehension and handler protection.
He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps participating in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
Explorer meetings are held the first and third Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. at Superior Court.
