Special Olympics Triathlon Gold Medalist Honored

Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton congratulates Noah Dellas of Court House Sept. 8 on winning a gold medal in the first triathlon in the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles

CREST HAVEN – Special Olympics Triathlon Gold Medalist Noah Dellas of Court House and his coach Lisa Rumer were honored with resolutions by the Cape May County freeholders Sept. 8.
Freeholder Kristine Gabor said Dellas participated  in the World Games in Los Angeles, Calif. It was the first time in 47 years that the games included a triathlon.
Additionally, all four athletes on the team were from New Jersey, she said.
Their collective efforts resulted in “positive results” that netted the team two gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal.
The team endured a half-mile open water swim and a 3.1 mile run. Nineteen nations sent contestants to the games, Gabor said.
Dellas was the first person to cross the finish line.
She said that Special Olympics had helped Dellas get interested in sports. That interest led him to meet coach Lisa Rumer.
“This was the first-ever triathlon and all were New Jersey residents, and the gold medal winner was from Cape May County,” Gabor continued.
“This was an amazing experience,” Rumer told the board.
