SEA ISLE CITY – The Knights of Columbus Madonna Maria Council No. 3560 here hosted its annual 400 Club Cocktail Party on Sept. 7, during which the names of ticket-holders who won cash prizes ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 were drawn.
According to a release, “In an effort to raise funds for the many charities they support, each year during this contest the Knights from St. Joseph Church sell 400 tickets at $100 each, then winners are announced at the party.”
As is always the case, the gathering was termed “a huge success” and attracted over 300.
Additionally, Knights of Columbus members Bill Gill and Dave Barry were once again honored for selling more tickets than any other Knight in the organization. However, the entire program is clearly a group effort.
At the start of the cocktail party, the top winning ticket was drawn first so to give all ticket holders a chance at the $10,000 prize before the 10 $1,000 prizes were drawn.
The name of the top winner was not announced until the end of the party, which “kept everyone in attendance in good spirits and filled with anticipation,” according to the release.
The $10,000 top prize this year went to a couple from Avalon who owned ticket No. 106.
Ten other ticket holders from across the county walked off with $1,000 each. Those winning ticket numbers were 5, 6, 23, 37, 73, 152, 308, 327, 379, and 387.
“We always have a good turn-out for this event,” said event Chairman Joe Koch. “Tickets usually sell out by mid-August and the cocktail party is a highlight for the entire parish – and a good way to close out the summer. The money we raise helps many people, including the Special Olympics and Covenant House in Atlantic City, amongst others. This fund-raiser does a lot of good.”
