VILLAS – Tom Cannuli, 23, a graduate of Lower Township High School, is busy packing his bags for a summer of high stakes poker in Vegas. After coming in sixth place last year in the World Series of Poker and taking home $1.42 million, he is going back and hoping to bring home the first place bracelet and pot ranging from $7-$8 million.
Cannuli, born and raised in Cape May County, began playing poker in his teens. He started playing games around town and online with some help from family friends. At the age of 21, Cannuli became a professional poker player with his poker career growing rapidly. He is a proud, signed ambassador for 888 Poker, one of the top online poker houses.
“It’s great if you are winning but I had losses too” states Cannuli. He prides his success on intuition and impeccable observation skills. Subtle things like watching the pulse on someone’s neck to see if they are nervous is one of his top indicators to tell if someone is bluffing. Cannuli also attributes his success to self-development and leadership classes he took at age 19, which he believes gave him invaluable insight.
“I am fortunate to live this lifestyle,” claims Cannuli, “It’s not about winning or losing, it’s about being happy.” He hopes to motivate people to chase their dreams, stay positive and “love wherever you spend your time.” Although winning isn’t everything, Cannuli’s dream is “to win a bracelet in Vegas,” and poker will be a part of his life forever.

Cape May County – Why don't we have a local TV station in South Jersey? We had channel 40 in Linwood and that's gone. Maybe because it highlighted real news at times!! With all due respect to the Cape May…
