Countdown to Townsend’s Inlet Civic Center’s 125th Anniversary

By Al Campbell

TOWNSEND’S INLET — Summer 2010 kicks off with a fundraiser at Busch’s Restaurant to benefit the Townsend’s Inlet Civic Center’s new exterior on June 25.
Those who wish to participate should call 263-3002 to receive their fundraiser slip to present to the restaurant hostess. Busch’s will donate a percentage of the meal tab to raise funds to help pay for an architect, engineer, permits and blue-prints for the new facade.
The members believe they are blessed to have many builders on the island and they have all volunteered to build the new exterior just like they generously did by building Aurua’s Play By The Bay.
The Busch’s fundraiser is a first in a series of similar events to help have the Center finished for its 125th anniversary.
The annual Townsend’s Inlet Civic Center Restoration Dinner Gala at the center, 138-85 St. features the island’s best restaurant cuisine.
Participating restaurants include Lobster Loft, Busch’s, Car en’s, Valarie’s Place, Azzura Pizzeria, Mc Gowan’s, Amici’s, Welshie’s, Mrs. Brizzle’s Buns and more.
Live music, dancing and fabulous door prizes will be featured.
There will also be a dedication ceremony of the “Gateway to the Future” by state representatives. Jim MacMillan of WCMC radio will be honored for what he has done to help the center.
Tickets are $20 adult and $10 child. Tickets sold at Nickelby’s, Rick’s, Welshie’s and 7-Eleven also at the door. Take out will be available. Reserve seating by calling 263-3002.
Last year’s dinner helped raise funds to fireproof paint the center.
The center has much to offer from the shows to dinners. Because the King Neptune Festival was so popular last July the members added the new Mermaid Of The Sea Festival for Aug. 7.
These two Festivals feature nautical items and beautiful crafts for the home.
Proceeds from both will beautify the land-mark, which has served the community for over a century and for all that the center has contributed to residents’ lives, the community is show-ing appreciation by making this exterior a reality.
