Denielle Maguire, a junior education K-8 special education major from Cape May, received a scholarship at Wesley College’s Founders Day on March 18. The Chrissy Tolomeo Memorial Award was established by family and friends of Chrissy Tolomeo, who was a sophomore student at Wesley College until her untimely death. Chrissy majored in Psychology and was a member of the Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority. Applicants were required to submit an essay to be considered for the award, and the Tolomeo family selected the recipients.

Mariah Smolka of Rio Grande, was among 177 Lebanon Valley College students who played a varsity sport during the 2014-2015 winter season. Smolka won the shot put title in Lebanon Valley’s first-ever NCAA track & field championship, qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, and was named as a Commonwealth T&F Athlete of the Week over the course of the season.
Smolka, a graduate of Middle Township High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in chemistry at The Valley and was a member of Lebanon Valley’s women’s indoor track & field team.

Rachel Leigh Weeks of Seaville, graduated with a degree in Nursing – BSN from James Madison University during the Dec. 13, 2014 commencement exercises.
Weeks was among nearly 800 students who received undergraduate, masters, educational specialist and doctoral degrees.

Cape May resident Morgan Kelly spent spring break serving others through James Madison University’s Alternative Spring Break Program. Kelly, a junior Health Sciences major, traveled to Wellington, Colorado to volunteer with Harvest Farm.
The student-led ASB trips took place from March 7-14. Each trip focused on a social issue, such as homelessness, resettlement, environmentalism or community wellness, in a specific region. Almost 300 students embarked on 23 spring break trips around the country and world. The students spent the week living simply, and focused on service in their destination community, but also on teamwork and reflection within their group.
Harvest Farm is a 209-acre farm and rehabilitation center for men. The farm accommodates up to 72 men who participate in long-term programs with the goal of breaking the cycles of addiction and homelessness. The program combines academics, life skills classes, Bible study, work therapy and Christian counseling in a curriculum extending up to 27 months. JMU students delved into health and substance abuse social issues while working alongside the men at Harvest Farm.

Air Force Airman 1st Class James J. McGlory graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
McGlory is the son of James J. McGlory Sr. of Barto, Pa., Louise McGlory of North Cape May, N.J., Joseph McGlory of North Cape May, N.J., and Loretta M. McGlory of Barto, Pa.
He is a 2011 graduate of Boyertown Area Senior High School, Boyertown, Pa.

Ryan Burke, son of Dave and Francey Burke of Court House, received all Honors in each of his classes he took at the University of Melbourne, Australia for the fall semester. Burke is a student at Lafayette College in Easton PA, class of 2016.

Ryan Hildebrandt, a Japanese major from Court House, has earned the Dean’s Award for academic excellence at Colgate University for the Fall 2014 semester.
Students with a 3.30 or higher term average while enrolled in 3.75 or more course hours are eligible for Dean’s Award recognition at Colgate.

Morgan Robinson, of Erma, has been named to the fall 2014 Dean’s List at Rider University. Robinson is a junior Psychology/Elementary Education major and earned a 4.0 for her fall semester. She is also a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education, and ODK, a National Leadership Society.

A team of undergraduates from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) were recently honored as finalists for the President’s IQP Awards for participating on the project, Worcester Earn-A-Bike: Creating an Adaptive Bicycle. As a member of this team, Bror Axelsson of Cape May, a senior, worked to develop an alternative bicycle for people with different disabilities.
