AARP Chapter 691 Rings In Holidays

By Leslie Truluck

RIO GRANDE — AARP Chapter 691 held a Christmas party at Menz’s Restaurant Dec. 8.
Established in 1972, AARP Chapter 691 is the oldest chapter in the county, President Richard Payton said.
Out of the chapter’s 80 members, its eldest is Mildred Payne Moore, 93, who was a nurse in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) during World War II.
Born in 1915, she was raised in West Cape May and graduated in 1933 from Cape May High School. The former school is currently Cape May City Hall.
Moore had a 30-year career in early childhood education in Philadelphia and ran a licensed beauty salon in New Jersey.
AARP holds meetings every first Tuesday of the month at the Millman Center in the Villas, where they discuss senior issues and host guest speakers to stay informed on local news that affects them.
Member Bob Rizzo serves as a watchdog for the group by collecting information from local municipal governments. Meetings are open to anyone over 50-years-old who is interested in joining the chapter.
