Excitement Builds for Beach Opening in Stone Harbor

By Press Release

STONE HARBOR – The Borough of Stone Harbor kicks off the season May 27, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. on 95th St Beach at the annual beach opening ceremony. Stone Harbor’s Mayor Suzanne Walters will be joined by members of Borough Council, the Stone Harbor Beach Patrol, elementary school children, community and local business owners.
Stone Harbor Elementary students are eager to help Mayor Walters open the beaches by holding their ceremonial artwork made of red, white, and blue rings symbolizing unity. “The staff and students at the Stone Harbor Elementary School are looking forward to the sunny days of summer at Stone Harbor beaches,” exclaims Dr. Renee Murtaugh, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction. “Let the sun begin! We wish everyone a safe, healthy, happy and sunny summer 2016.”
Following the ribbon cutting, Mayor Walters and Stone Harbor Beach Patrol Captain, Sandy Bosacco will officially “unlock” the beaches for the 2016 tourism season. Captain Bosacco brightly announced “all of us on the Stone Harbor Beach Patrol are looking forward to the first big weekend of summer and thankful the nice weather will arrive just in time!”
Then May 29, it’s both the Turtle Trot 5K and the opening of Stone Harbor’s Farmers Market.  Visit StoneHarborBeach.com to register for the morning race and walk to the Water Tower Plaza on 95th St and Second Ave afterwards to refuel.
May 30, we remember those who gave their lives while serving in the country’s armed forces. Stone Harbor’s Memorial Day Service for Fallen Heroes begins at 11:00 a.m. at the 96th St Firehouse and the Memorial Day Parade begins at 12:00 p.m.
