The Whaler’s Cottage, also known as the Owen Coachman House, is an exceptional example of a free black landowner’s home erected before the Civil War.
Listed in the National Register of Historic Places listings in Cape May County, the Owen Coachman House represents the ante-bellum free black community that had been established in Cape May County in the first half of the 19th century.
Dave and Christina Clemans purchased it in 2004 and restored it to its current beauty.
Tickets for the event are $75 and are available by calling The Center for Community Arts at 609- 884-7525 or by visiting the office at 712 Lafayette St. in Cape May.
