Earth Day Logo Winners Receive Prizes

Rachel Stackhouse of Cape May Technical School

By Al Campbell

CREST HAVEN – Earth Day will be marked April 22 at the Cape May County Park and Zoo.
A logo contest was held to decorate T-shirts to commemorate the day. That competition drew 150 entries, according to Jean Whalen of the county park.
She held up the top three award winners’ designs at the April 11 freeholders’ meeting. Joining Whalen was Parks Director Ed Runyon.
The first-place design winner was Rachel Stackhouse of Cape May County Technical High School. She received a $75 gift card and bragging rights because her design, a sprinkling can watering the globe with the words “Action Earth,” will appear on T-shirts at the event.
Second place went to Hannah Toth, also of Cape May County Technical High School. She received a $50 gift card.
Third place was awarded to Aaliyah Goolsby of Sandman Consolidated School. She will receive a $25 gift card, as she was absent from the presentation.
The April 22 celebration will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Festivities will start with a 5K-Earth Day Race and One-Mile Fun Run. Certificates will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group in both male and female divisions.
T-shirts will also be handed out to the first 150 participants.
Registration donations from the race will benefit the Cape May County Park and Zoo Trust Fund.
Throughout the day there will be live music, children’s story time, inflatable obstacle course, and slide, an interactive drum circle, hands-on educational exhibits, free entertainment, naturalist hayride, food, and crafts are all on the agenda.
