LOWER TOWNSHIP – After introducing the First Annual Kindergarten Sight Word Challenge earlier this school year, students throughout the David C. Douglass Veteran’s Memorial School anxiously continued learning their high frequency sight words.
Kindergarten students knew that they would not only earn an end of the year reward, but also help ensure their literacy success in future grades. Their hard work paid off with the grade level surpassing 5000 sight words!
As a reward students requested that their Principal Nicholas Bailey, dress up as a princess and allow them to toss cool whip pies at him. The request was happily honored with the entire school present at a special assembly during the first week in June.
“I am so proud of each student for all of their hard work, said Bailey. “Our entire staff is wonderful and together we have created something that really has our students excited about reading!”
